Anton Beresch was a Russian separatist who worked for Vladimir Bierko during Day 5. He aided in obtaining the canisters of Sentox VX nerve gas by holding the Ontario airport hostage.

[edit] Day 5

When Anton Beresch found out President Charles Logan was continuing with the signing of the anti-terrorism treaty with Russia after former President David Palmer was assassinated, he launched his attacks on the Ontario airport in hopes of stopping the signing of the treaty.

After Beresch and his men took over the airport, he revealed via live broadcast that he will kill all the hostages if President Logan and Russian President Yuri Suvarov went ahead with the treaty. And that if Logan did not make a public announcement about calling off the treaty, he would kill a hostage every 15 minutes.

When Logan didn't comply, Beresch executed the first hostage. After another 15 minutes had past, he grabbed another hostage, Derek Huxley. Jack Bauer, who was hiding in the vents spotted Derek, and knew he had to save Derek some how. Before Beresch could execute Derek, one of his men's explosive vests detonated and stalled his execution.

James Nathanson contact Beresch telling him that Jack Bauer was hiding in the airport and was responsible for the explosion. Beresch also learned that Bauer was supplying CTU with intel, who were preparing for a rescue operation. Beresch then called out for Bauer and said he'd kill Derek if he didn't show himself. Jack had to comply and showed himself.

With Bauer captured, Beresch used Bauer to supply CTU with false information and to change their rescue operation plan to enter at a different location of the airport, so Beresch and his men could ambush the CTU field agents as they entered.

Beresch had his men search for Chevensky, they found him dead and grabbed the keycard he had on him. Beresch later handed this keycard to Ivan Erwich, who was posing as a hostage.

When Lynn McGill was reviewing the transcript between Bauer and CTU, he noticed a distress code. Bill Buchanan had Curtis Manning call of their operation and return to the original plan. CTU stormed the airport and were able to Beresch's men. During the commotion, Jack was able to break free of his handcuffs and take down some of men. When Beresch noticed Jack, he tried to shoot himself in the head, but Jack shot his hand, making him drop his pistol. When on the ground, Beresch self-destructed one of the vests and successfully killed himself.
