Season 8 (also known as Day 8) will premiere on January 17, 2010 on the FOX network with a special four-hour two-day premiere. Day 8 takes place 8-9 months after the events of Day 7, and begins at 4:00 PM.
Day 8 will unfold in New York City.
During a peace conference at the United Nations between U.S. President Allison Taylor and Middle-Eastern leader Omar Hassan, Jack Bauer is made aware of a possible assassination attempt.
CTU has been recommissioned, and the New York branch is run by MBA-schooled Brian Hastings. The leader of field-ops is Cole Ortiz, an ex-Marine who wants to follow in the footsteps of Jack Bauer. Other CTU staffers include, expert data analyst Dana Walsh and systems analyst Arlo Glass. Chloe O'Brian is also working at the CTU: NY branch, but is behind with the newly upgraded CTU. President Taylor is still in office, with her new Chief of Staff, Rob Weiss.

Crew
Many prominent crew members departed from the series during Season 7. Both creators Robert Cochran and Joel Surnow left the series after their contracts expired last season. Longtime series writer Michael Loceff also left, as well as the series' main director Jon Cassar left to pursue other projects. Production designer Joseph Hodges, who has been with the series since first season also will not be involved in the new season. His position will be filled by the original production designer, Carlos Barbosa, who worked on the pilot episode.
Howard Gordon, Evan Katz, David Fury, Manny Coto, Brannon Braga, and Alex Gansa will return as writers and executive producers. Chip Johannessen will return as a writer and co-executive producer. Patrick Harbinson will join the series as a writer and co-executive producer. Kiefer Sutherland and Brian Grazer will also serve as executive producers. Brad Turner will return as the series' main director, he'll also serve as an executive producer. Milan Cheylov will also return as a director.
