Karen Hayes was the head of Homeland Security and took control of CTU: Los Angeles on Day 5. By Day 6, she is married to Bill Buchanan and is now the National Security Advisor.

Day 5

Karen Hayes is put in charge of CTU after a canister of the nerve gas was released into the building. She was initially disliked by many individuals within the division, especially after under orders from the President, Karen diverted resources from finding the terrorists and onto locating Jack Bauer. After finding out about Logan's possible involvement, she helps Bill Buchanan and Chloe escape Henderson's men, and brings them back into CTU to assist in taking down Vladimir Bierko.
