Dan Mounts was one of Kim Bauer's kidnappers hired by Ira Gaines on Day 1.

[edit] Day 1

Before the events of Day 1, Ira Gaines hired Dan Mounts and his friend Rick Allen to kidnap Kim Bauer. He lures Kim and her friend, Janet York to the furniture store where he works. Dan and Rick give Kim and Janet the image that they were just about having a good time. They offer them drugs and Dan has sex with Janet.

After leaving the furniture store, there is a dramatic change in events when Dan refuses to take Kim home. He becomes violent and Kim finally learns she is being kidnapped. Knowing that Janet is an anomaly, he hits her with a crowbar in order to control Kim. Dan is constantly in control of the situation. Kim accuses Rick of being his lapdog.

While Dan and Rick take a break, Dan orders Rick to administer drugs to help Janet deal with her wound. Kim and Janet seize the opportunity to escape. Dan and Rick chase Kim and Janet. Janet is ran over by a car, but Rick and Dan recover Kim and leave. Kim yells that they have to go back to retrieve Janet. Dan realizes that Kim is right. There can be no witnesses, and Janet could identity them. Dan drives the van back to Janet, intending to kill her, but is too late. The ambulance is already picking Janet up.

Dan and Rick hand Kim off to Ira Gaines. Ira Gaines asks about the other girl. Dan lies to Gaines and tells him that they had to kill her when she became a problem. Later, Dan and Rick meet Ira at his compound to receive their payment. Ira tells Dan that he received information from his sources (most likely Kevin Carroll) that Janet is alive. Dan tells Gaines that they thought she was dead, but she must not have been. Ira argues that you are either dead or you're not. To prove his point, he shoots Dan in the head and promotes Rick. Rick's first job: bury Dan's body.
