Creators
24 was created by Robert Cochran and Joel Surnow. Before 24, they created and worked together on the action series La Femme Nikita from 1997 to 2001. Cochran and Surnow are also executive producers and writers for the series and have written a large amount episodes for the series.
Joel Surnow left the series on February 12, 2008. His contract with 20th Century Fox was due to expire on April 30, but he requested an early release. "I did some soul-searching. I took [the strike] as an opportunity to write on my own and do other things. After doing 24, I don't know if I want to do a mainstream show again. I like what's going on in cable; there is an opportunity to stretch dramatically there, which is something I'm trying to do." The position held by Surnow was filled by showrunner/writer Howard Gordon.

Besides Cochran and Surnow, some of the other key writers include David Fury, Evan Katz, Howard Gordon, Manny Coto and Michael Loceff.
Many 24 episodes are written by two people, some of main writing teams include Joel Surnow and Michael Loceff; Robert Cochran and Howard Gordon; and Evan Katz and Howard Gordon.
Directors

In each season, there is one main director who directs the majority of episodes in that season, usually 10 to 12 episodes. They'll also be responsible for directing the premiere and finale episodes. Stephen Hopkins was the main director for the first season, directing 12 episodes; he only directed in the first season. Jon Cassar joined the series in the middle of the first season and became the main director from the second to fifth seasons. Starting with the sixth season, Brad Turner became the main director; he directed 10 episodes in that season. He'll also be main director for the upcoming seventh season. Other key directors for the series include Bryan Spicer, Ian Tonyton and Tim Iacofano. Director of Photography Rodney Charters has also directed episodes for the series. Also, since 24 shoots two episodes at a time, the director will director two episodes in a row.
