Alan Tanner is one of the men working under Tony Almeida and David Emerson during Day 7.

Day 7

As Jack Bauer and Renee Walker are interrogating Gabriel Schector for information regarding his dealings with Tony Almeida, Alan Tanner shoots him with two sniper bullets from across the street atop a building, killing Schector. Agent Walker has FBI units surround the premises so Tanner is unable to escape. Almeida sends one of his men that he has planted within the FBI to help Tanner evacuate the building safely.

After Tanner drives back to the docks where Tony and crew are stationed aboard a ship, he is assaulted by Jack and Walker. After a brief beating from Jack, he is then used as a human shield as one of the mercenaries open fires on the group, hitting Tanner in the chest and stomach multiple times. He falls to the ground and is on the brink of death.

Tanner is eventually transported to a local medical facility so he can receive some treatment for his injuries. While in critical condition, Tanner requests to have his lawyers present in his room. Renee Walker hears of this development and heads to the hospital with Janis Gold. Once there, Walker barricades his door and pushes her gun in against his gunshot wound, demanding to know where Tony Almeida is. Tanner is shocked at the FBI Agent breaking the law but refuses to divulge any information. Agent Walker then closes his intubation tubes, causing him to nearly choke to death. At this point, Tanner tells her about the plans of Emerson and Almeida to kidnap Prime Minister Matobo. She leaves the room as nurses rush to the room to aid Tanner.
